Which is easier, a Payment Request or sending bank details?

01 Sep 2026

A Payment Request via PayShap, and it is not close. Sending your bank details hands the whole job to the other person, who has to type your account number in correctly, add you as a beneficiary and then remember to actually make the payment. A Payment Request shows up in their app with the amount already filled in. They tap approve. Done.

Bank details: the slow way to get paid

You copy or screenshot your account number and branch code, send them over and wait. Now they have to open their banking app, add a new beneficiary, type ten digits without a slip and scroll back up the chat to find what they owe you.

There are too many chances for them to stall, and they usually do. Not because anyone is dodging you, but because "I'll do it tonight" is where payments go to die.

A Payment Request via PayShap does the typing for you

Open the GoTyme Bank app, select Payment Request, enter their cellphone number or account number, then add the amount and a reference and send it. It arrives as a notification in their banking app.

They review it, tap to approve and the money is in your account in seconds. No follow-up message. No third reminder that you apologise about.

And remember: Sending a Payment Request via PayShap is always free.

When your bank details still win

Payment Requests work with African Bank, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank and Standard Bank. If they bank somewhere else or you are moving more than R50,000, your bank details are still the way to go.
