How do I split a holiday house booking with PayShap?

• 14 Oct 2026

Pay the booking yourself, then send each person a Payment Request via PayShap for their share from the GoTyme Bank app. It arrives in their banking app with the amount already filled in, they tap to approve and the money arrives in your account instantly. Sending the requests is free.

How to collect everyone's share

  1. Work out each person's share, including the deposit, cleaning fee and any extras.
  2. Open the GoTyme Bank app and select Menu > Payment Request.
  3. Enter each person's cellphone number or account number and choose their bank.
  4. Add the amount and a clear reference, like "Hermanus house Dec", then send.

Deposit now, balance later

Most holiday rentals ask for a deposit when you book and the balance closer to the date. Send one round of Payment Requests for the deposit and a second round for the balance a few weeks before you leave. That way you are never out of pocket for the whole house while you wait for everyone to pay. When you pay the rental yourself with an Instant Payment via PayShap, you can send up to R50,000 a day. For a bigger booking, use a Standard Payment, which is free and lands at another bank within 1 to 3 business days.

See who still owes

You get a notification as each person pays, so you know exactly who has settled before you pack the car. No spreadsheet and no awkward group chat reminders. Payment Requests via PayShap can be sent to anyone who banks with African Bank, Capitec, FNB, Nedbank or Standard Bank.
