Yes. Anyone who has your cellphone number or account number can send you a PayShap Payment Request. That sounds alarming until you know the important part: nothing leaves your account unless you open the app and approve it yourself.
This is the whole design. A Payment Request runs on PayShap, but it cannot pull money out of your account. It arrives as a notification, sits there and waits for you.
To pay it you have to open the GoTyme Bank app, review the details and tap Pay now, then authorise with your fingerprint, face ID or a one-time PIN. Ignore it and nothing happens. Reject it and it goes away.
Do not approve it. There is no penalty for rejecting a request and no obligation to explain yourself.
Check who it is from and what the reference says. If it is a friend settling up a bill you forgot about, fine. If you do not recognise the name or the amount looks wrong, reject it and ask the person directly through a channel you trust.
An unexpected request is occasionally someone hoping you will tap approve out of habit, the same way people approve notifications without reading them.
That matters because a PayShap payment cannot be reversed once you authorise it. Two seconds spent reading the name and the amount is the whole defence, and it works every time.
